Sivapalan Kathiravale, Principal Analyst, Emerging Technology Sivapalan Kathiravale is the Principal Analyst of the Emerging Technology Division at Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT). He completed his Masters in Environmental Engineering at Univiersity Teknologi Malaysia in 1998. He has been a Technical Advisor to the National Solid Waste Department on waste management issues. He was also a pioneer in establishing comprehensive characteristics of solid waste and was responsible for creating new equations to calculate the calorific values of municipal solid waste and waste derived fuel in Malaysia. Hwee Song Suan, Senior International Account Manager Suan Hwee Song is the Senior International Account Manager for Electric Power at Caterpillar Power Finance in Singapore. He is responsible for arranging financing for Caterpillar’s electric power customers in Asia. Through international assignments and various positions in Singapore, Mexico and the United Kingdom during his 12 year career, Suan has accumulated varied deal experience in the analysis and execution of power and infrastructure projects, particularly in the areas of international finance, commercial sales, fuel sales and financial modelling. Before joining Caterpillar, Suan worked as a commercial manager and project developer at Intergen, a global independent power producer specializing in large scale coal-fired and gas-fired combined cycle power plants. Azhar bin Abdul Raof, Head of Renewable Energy Research Centre Azhar Abdul Raof is a Consultant at Renewable Energy Research Centre of SIRIM Bhd,Malaysia. He has spent more than 19 years in research and development work in the field of industrial wastewater treatment and waste-to renewable energy project, especially in the utilization of waste and biomass. Mr. Azhar now, is a head for Biomass Energy Technology Section, a leader for SIRIM biomethane project. Most recently, Mr. Azhar’s efforts have been concentrated on a methods of biogas treatment, including technology platforms capable of producing vehicle fuel as well as pipeline quality natural gas, and logistics of biomethane. He has extensive knowledge in biogas production and utilisation, including gas cleanup technologies for the production of biomethane transportation fuel. He also has been involved in climate change/GHG topics since 2005. He has been trained in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) validation and verification processes, and is a qualified CDM auditor. For the last 3 years, he has validated and verified large and small scale CDM projects mostly in ASEAN region, that recover/avoid methane from landfill, palm oil mill, animal manure, cassava, composting of biomass etc. Azhar holds a B. Nasrin Abu Bakar, Senior Research Officer Nasrin Abu Bakar is a senior research officer at Energy & Environment Unit , Engineering of Processing Research Division of Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). He graduated in 2000 from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) with Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Hons). Prior to joining MPOB in 2002, he worked as a QC and R&D Engineer for manufacturing companies. He is currently a group leader for energy research group, which focuses on the R&D activities of the palm based renewable energy (RE) especially from palm oil, oil palm biomass and palm oil mill effluent (POME). His research activities and interests focus on process development of solid fuels and 2nd generation biofuels from oil palm biomass, utilization of biogas, energy efficiency of the combined heat and power (CHP) of palm oil mills and improvement of milling process. He also actively involves in the various national technical committees overseeing the development of oil palm based RE and environmental projects and Malaysian Standard (MS) Development. Mark Leslie, CEO Mr. Leslie has extensive work experience in Asia, EMEA, and the Americas with several global corporations. In 2012 he lead a Buy Out of a group of companies focused on waste water treatment and renewable power generation. Jesse Wong, Senior Manager Jesse Wong was appointed as the Senior Business Development Manager of Konzen Clean Energy Sdn Bhd on Feb 2011. In 2001 he began his career in water and wastewater treatment systems and over the course of his career, has become extremely well versed in potable water treatment systems, water demineralization plants, ultra and high pure water treatment plants (UPW & HPW), membrane bioreactors (MBR) and chemical and biological wastewater treatment systems. Dr. Fabien Cabirol, Regional Business Development (SEA) Dr Fabien Cabirol is responsible for the Regional Business Development of Evonik Membrane business in SEA. Pierre Roux is graduated from the Engineering School of Chemistry (France) and the University of Karlsruhe - Chemical & Process Engineering department (Germany). Kurt Sorschak, Chairman of the Board, CEO and President Mr. Sorschak co-founded Xebec Adsorption Inc., and developed it from a local compressed air and gas dryer manufacturer into an internationally active gas purification company. He played an important role in establishing strong relationships with different universities and laboratories in Canada and the United States of America, for the development of innovative adsorption based gas purification. In 2011 he joined the Board of Directors of the Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance (CNGVA). In 2008, he became the sole director of Xebec China, which serves the Chinese and Asian/Pacific market with gas purification and filtration equipment. From 2004 to 2007, he was the General Manager of the Canadian division of Domnick Hunter's air dryer manufacturing facility, at that time the largest adsorption dryer plant in North America. Lee Giok Seng, Executive Director Mr Lee Giok Seng holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University, USA. He joined PETRONAS in August 1984. He was involved in the NGV programme since it was first commercially introduced by PETRONAS in Malaysia in 1991 when he was the engineer in-charge of vehicle conversions. In 1995, with the formation of PETRONAS NGV Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, he was appointed as the Technical Services Manager. In 2003 he was appointed as the Senior Manager for the Operations & Services Department of PETRONAS NGV. He managed the Supply & Transportation Unit, Maintenance and Services Unit, and Technical Services Unit of PETRONAS NGV. In August 2006 he was appointed as the Head of New Energy Resources in the Group Technology and R&D Management Unit of the Research and Technology Division of PETRONAS. Richard Lileystone, CEO Richard established Gazasia in 2011 to develop a waste to bio fuel project in the Philippines in partnership with Aboitiz, one of the country’s major energy companies. Richard has spearheaded Gazasia’s work in Aseagas, Gazasia’s joint venture with Aboitiz, organising and overseeing investigations into the various sites proposed for the establishment of Aseagas’s rst waste to energy plant. He has expanded and developed Gazasia’s team of specialists, ensuring the correct resources were available to co-ordinate operations with the Aseagas team in respect of the chosen site at Lian Batangas. He and the team have since concentrated on selecting and working closely with appropriate suppliers, providing a seamless interface with the Aseagas team at each phase of the project. In 2002, Richard co-founded Gasrec Ltd in the UK, where he was CEO of the company until 2011. Under his leadership, the company sourced and established a successful management team which designed, developed and deployed the world’s rst LFG to LBM plant. Anders Ek, Chief Scientist Anders is a bio-engineer specialised in the biogas process. He joined Asia Biogas in July 2011 and oversaw the commissioning of Thailand’s first biogas plant for cassava pulp in Korat. Prior to this he was Chief Technical Officer at Swedish Biogas International Korea Ltd from Aug 2009 to June 2011, where he worked with establishment and development of biogas plants and biomethane upgrading units on the Korean market. Anders has previously worked with biogas projects in Sweden, USA, and South Korea. He has worked as Process Manager at full-scale biogas plants for production of biomethane/CBG as vehicle fuel, and with feasibility studies and process design of new biogas plants, as well as laboratory and pilot scale R&D trials. He has full-scale experience of biogas production from a broad range of feedstocks e.g. slaughterhouse waste, industrial food waste, bioethanol stillage, agricultural residues, energy crops, municipal sewage sludge, cassava starch wastewater, cassava pulp, and animal manure.
